Our Story
The Beginnings
Roger Ritchie was born and raised in Rockingham County, VA. After graduating from Broadway High School, he attended the University of Maryland where he received his bachelor of arts in history.
From there, he began his teaching career back in Rockingham county where he spent three years coaching JV football and teaching in the Elkton School District. Towards the end of those three years, he decided that he’d like to shift his career to focus on law.
In 1971, Roger attended the University of Maryland School of Law and received his law degree in 1975. From there, he moved back to Harrisonburg, VA to begin his law practice. In the early days, he partnered with Jim McNulty taking on criminal cases and domestic cases.
In those early days, he partnered with Jim McNaulty before Jim became a judge. The growth of Roger’s practice was driven by criminal and domestic cases. As time went on, his results and strength in these cases led to more and more personal injury cases.
While still taking on wills, real estate, and civil rights, Roger began to form a reputation for personal injury and employment cases.
If you didn’t know, advertising for law firms was not permissible until the late 1970’s. When Roger’s competition began advertising, it opened the door for him to really put himself out there. The introduction of advertising actually helped to focus the practice area, streamline processes, and ultimately provide a better service.
Expanding
In the early 1990’s, the Ritchie family purchased and converted the Advance Auto Parts building in downtown Harrisonburg where Ritchie Law has been located since.
In the late 1990’s the firm expanded to the Winchester and Staunton locations, and then in the early 2000’s, to the Charlottesville and Martinsburg locations. The multiple locations allow us to share our specialized services across a wider area.
